RUBAN
Origin : North of France ; studied described and evaluated at Espace Naturel Régional - Centre Regional de Ressources Génétiques (ENR-CRRG) Nord Pas de Calais - Villeneuve d’Ascq.
Tree : type IV of fructification ; low susceptibility to mildew and scab.
Fruits : medium size, asymmetric shape ; ¾ red blushed and striped on a yellow ground color ; white flesh ; crisp and juicy ; slightly rich flavor ; mid season.

REINETTE CLOCHARD
Origin : West of France.
Tree : moderately to highly vigorous ; low to moderately susceptibility to scab and mildew ; moderately susceptible to Nectria canker.
Fruits : moderate size ; flat and symmetric shape; green-yellow russeted skin; fine texture, rich in sugar, acid and flavour ; late maturing.

TN10-8
Origin : France ; selection from the cross Reinette Clochard x O53T136 (Antonovka resistance).
Tree : moderately vigorous ; biennial bearing ; resistant to scab and weakly susceptible to mildew.
Fruits : good size ; yellow-green russeted skin ; rich flavor, midly acid, firmness breaks down during the storage ; harvest time : mid season.

From The Netherlands

LOMBARTS CALVILLE  picture
Origin : The Netherlands ; found in 1906, probably seedling of "Calv. Blanc d'Hiver".
Tree : medium vigorous ; early and highly productive, but biennual bearing ; rather low susceptibility to scab, but very susceptible to mildew.
Fruits : medium to large size ; slightly conical shape ; smooth and yellow green skin, but becomes greasy ; soft flesh, good texture, juicy and some what acid : good quality ; storable until March-April.

Origin : The Netherlands ; selection from Golden Delicious x Antonovka 34-16 (CPRO-DLO).
Tree : medium vigorous ; medium productive ; resistant to scab and low susceptilbility to mildew.
Fruits : medium size ; conical shape ; yellow green and rather smooth skin ; medium firm flesh, medium juicy : poor eating quality ; midseason.

From Switzerland

OBERRIEDER GLANZREINETTE
Origin : unknown, discovered around 1820 in the area of Zürich.
Tree : vigour weak ; productivity medium, some biennial bearing ; low susceptibility to scab ; late flowering.
Fruits : size from small to medium ; round to oblong-conical ; green-yellow ; flesh firm, juicy and sub-acid, nice flavour, mid to late season.

SCHNEIDERAPFEL (syn. Albisser)
Origin : unknown, from the canton of Zürich, 1764.
Tree : vigour strong ; high yields ; low susceptibility to scab ; diploid.
Fruits : medium size ; flat-round ; slightly russeted on green-yellow, with red blush ; flesh firm, juicy : medium eating quality, mainly used for juice ; late-season.

SCHWEIZER ORANGENAPFEL (Pomme Orange Suisse)   picture
Origin : Ontario x Cox Orange (Swiss Federal Research Station Wädenswil), released in 1955.
Tree : vigour medium ; good yields, slightly biennial ; medium susceptibility to scab and mildew.
Fruits : medium size ; flat to truncate-conic ; skin smooth, green-yellow with orange overcolour ; flesh medium firm, juicy, sub-acid, aromatic : fresh consumption and processing ; mid to late season.

From Germany

ALKMENE  picture
Origin : Geheimrat Oldenburg x Cox Orange (Münchenberger ZüchtungInstitute), released in 1961.
Tree : medium vigour ; early beginning, high regularly yield ; low susceptibility to scab and mildew, high susceptible to spring frosts.
Fruits : medium size ; oblate shape ; smoothy skin, very low russeting, yellow and red blushed ; medium firm, juicy, sweet-finely acid flesh : high quality ; early-midseason (9-11).

DULMENER ROSENAPFEL
Origin : unknown, may be seedling from "Gravensteiner" around 1870.
Tree : medium - strong vigour ; high yield, but biennally ; susceptible to scab, to winter and spring frosts, resistant to mildew.
Fruits : large size ; flat-globose shape ; smoothy, light russeting, yellow-green, and red skin, juicy, well-balanced sweet-acid flesh ; autumn (9-10).

HERRNHUT (syn. Schöner von Herrnhut) picture
Origin : unknown, found around 1880 in the Saxon region.
Tree : medium vigour ; high to very high yield, biennal bearing ; high resistance to winter and spring frosts ; moderately susceptible to scab, mildew and canker.
Fruits : small size ; conical shape ; smoothy, greasy green-red blushed / striped skin ; flesh firm, juicy, light acid-sweet : quality medium ; mid-season (10-12).

ROTE STERNRENETTE (syn. Reinette Rouge Etoilée) (from belgium too)   picture
Origin : probably Belgium or the Netherlands, first described in 1830.
Tree : medium to strong vigour, uprigh ; medium yield, partialy biennal bearing ; resistance to winter and spring frosts ; light susceptible to scab and canker.
Fruits : small-medium size ; round-flat shape ; smoothy, dry beautifull red-rose skin ; medium juicy, acid-sweet rose flesh : quality good to medium ; mid-season (10-12).

From United-Kingdom

CHARLES ROSS (syn. Thomas Andrew Knight) picture
Origin : Peasgood's Nonsuch x Cox's Orange Pippin (by Charles Ross, Berkshire), released in 1880.
Tree : moderately vigorous, upright-spreading ; fairly resistant to scab, prone to capsid bug.
Fruits : size large ; shape round conical to conical, not ribbed ; skin yellowish green, flushed red, striped darker red ; flesh tender, breaking, sweet to sub-acid flavour ; season mid to late.

DISCOVERY (syn. Thurston August)   picture
Origin : Worcester Pearmain x ? Beauty of Bath (by Mr Dummer, Essex), released in 1962.
Tree : moderately vigorous, upright-spreading ; inclined to tip-bear ; low susceptibility to scab and frost damage on blossom.
Fruits : size medium to large ; shape flat to flat-round ; skin greenish yellow flushed bright red scattered of russet ; flesh crisp, juicy, sub-acid flavour ; season early to second-early.

EGREMONT RUSSET
Origin : unknown ; probably English origins : 1st recorded 1872.
Tree : moderately vigorous, upright-spreading ; reasonably hardy ; shows resistance to scab. Young tree crops readily ; tendency to be biennial when older.
Fruits : size medium ; shape flat-round ; skin yellowish green, becoming golden, slight orange flush, half russet ; flesh firm, fine textured, quite dry, sweet, nutty flavour ; season mid.

From Italy

RENETTA GRIGIA DI TERRIANA
Origin : unknown ; found at the beginning of this century in the Piemonte region.
Tree : vigorous ; high productivity but biennal habit ; low susceptibility to scab and frost injury on flowers.
Fruits : medium size ; flat to slightly truncate-conic ; skin finely russetted on yellow-green ; flesh firm, rather juicy and sub-acid : medium to low quality ; mid-season.

DECIO
Origin : unknown ; very old winter apple from the Veneto region.
Tree : vigorous ; medium yield, tendency to biennal habit ; low susceptibility to scab.
Fruits : small to medium size ; globose to flat ; yellow-green skin, slight red blushed ; firm, crispy, sweet and aromatic flesh : medium quality ; very late season.

DURELLO DI FORLI
Origin : unknown, very old local variety from the Emilia-Romagna region.
Tree : weak vigour ; medium to high yield but biennal habit ; low susceptibility to scab.
Fruits : medium size ; flat shape ; yellow-green skin slight red blushed ; very firm, good balanced acid-sweet flesh : good quality ; very late season.

From Greece

FIRIKI    picture
Origin : unknown. Various clones under the same name.
Tree : very vigorous with upright habit ; tendency to biennial bearing ; tolerant to scab, Eriosoma lanigerum and low spring temperatures.
Fruits : small-medium size depending on the clone ; oval, symmetric shape ; medium greasiness of skin, green-yellow with red overcolour ; soft-medium flesh, sweet, and specific aroma : medium quality ; mid to late season.

From Belgium

PRESIDENT ROULIN  picture
Origin : raised by an amateur grower at Gembloux in 1912.
Tree : medium vigour ; heavy yield, tendency to be biennal ; very low susceptible to scab and canker.
Fruits : large size ; globose-flat ; smooth skin red orange striped ; soft, sub-acid flesh : medium quality ; mid to late season.

LA PAIX  picture
Origin : uncertain, assumed to be Belgian but like to Mother.
Tree : weak to medium vigour ; medium yield, tendency to biennal habit ; very low susceptibility to scab.
Fruits : medium size ; conic ; smooth skin widely red covered ; crispy, sweet aromatic flesh : very good quality ; mid season.

From Crimae

COLAPUIS
Origin : probably found in Crimea and carried back, afterwards, in North of France. Largely developed in this country; studied, described and evaluated at ENR-CRRG Nord Pas de Calais -Villeneuve d’Ascq.
Tree : moderately vigorous ; biennial bearing ; low susceptibility to scab and mildew.
Fruit : small size ; oblong fruit ; bright red blushed on a green ground color ; good sugar/acidity ratio ; late maturing ; long storage ability ; use : dessert, juice and cider
