Climate policies that target agriculture and forests could lead to increased food prices, but reducing deforestation and increasing soil carbon sequestration in agriculture could significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions while avoiding risk to food security, according to new research published in the journal Environmental Research Letters.

The desert locust is an invasive species that is both well known and feared because of the large-scale agricultural damage it can cause. It is particularly closely monitored, to prevent the risks of outbreaks and invasions. Climate change could modify its distribution area, meaning a new threat to agriculture, according to a study published in the journal Global Change Biology by researchers from CIRAD and INRA.

Launched in June this year by the French President Emmanuel Macron, the "Make our Planet Great Again" initiative has the ambitious goal to host around 50 high-achieving scientists in research laboratories across France over a five-year period. The program has been awarded 60 million euros and INRA is one of the participating research institutes.
