Last June 27th 2019, on the occasion of the World Microbiome Day, Philippe Sansonetti, Joël Doré and Claude Vincent, in the name of the Microbiome Inter Academic Group (IAG) as well as Philippe Mauguin, President of INRA, organised at La Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie in Paris, an event delivering an up-to-date vision of the role of the gut microbiome in nutrition and health. On this occasion, a documentary on these bacteria which we host and which are beneficial to our health, entitled “Les fabuleux pouvoirs du ventre’’ was presented en avant-première of its release by the television channel ARTE in the fall.

Multiple studies carried out at INRA Auvergne Rhône-Alpes have demonstrated that there is such a thing as a “grazing effect” on the sensory properties and quality of milk, cheese, butter and meat. Due to progress in microbiological analysis tools, research now explores the impact of grassland plant diversity on the animal’s microbiota. As it turns out, the link to its area of origin is important for cheese as well!

In the Bourgogne Franche-Comté region which benefits from a strong research and partnership dynamic focused on vegetable proteins and how they can be valorised, the Agroecology Joint Research Unit studies legumes and works on new varieties for agroecological cropping systems.
