Cucumber mosaïc virus (CMV) x spinach

[R]Identification
Detection of the virus using test plants ( Vigna ungiculata , tobacco, melon) often proves deficient.
The available ELISA test identifies it accurately using extracts of contaminated plants.

[R]Description
This virus can cause total collapse in seedlings.
In adult plants, the leaves turn yellow and show a mosaic pattern.
The plants dry out and the young leaves are distorted.

[R]Biology
The virus is transmitted by many species of ; the most efficient are : Myzus persicae , Aphis gossypii , A. craccivora , A. fabae .
The virus is acquired very fast, within one minute, and re-transmitted right away. It only persists about two hours in the aphid. The first aphid flights at a temperature close to 12 °C. cause the development of primary foci.
Seed-borne infection can also occur.

[R]Epidemiology
Weeds as the Stellaria media or Solanum nigrum species are a source of inoculum.

[R]Treatement
Use resistant cultivars.
Use protective plastic films to limit the early spread of the epidemic.
