Around the nodes greyish discoloured spots occur which get covered by round, flat, dark picnidia (0,1 - 0,5 mm diameter) located between the fibers.
On the pods symptoms occur too and are visible but the picnidia are scattered; the seeds are wrinkled, grey, often sunken.

Care should be taken when importing seeds.
Avoid introducing D. phaseolorum var. caulivora which is highly infective.
