[R]Identification
On roots and at the base of the stems white mycelium can be seen which may turn to pinkish-brown.
In vitro, the fungus produces microconidia and macroconidia as well as chlamydospores easily detectable with light microscopy.

[R]Description
Shortly before flowering the fungus causes foci where infected plants show symptoms of chlorosis, dessication and reddening.
Stems turn brown and the roots black, necrotic.
Attacked flax yields short fiber, unsuitable for industrial production.

[R]Biology
The fungus survives as chlamydospores in the soil and on debris Seeds can also carry inoculum.

[R]Epidemiology
Acids soils, high humidity and temperatures ranging between 25 and 28 °C. favour the development of the disease.

[R]Treatement
Avoid infested soils.
Observe crop rotations.
Use healthy seeds.
Destroy debris.
Use resistant cultivars.
