[R]Description
The first symptoms such as absence of growing and dessication of different parts in successive stages occur in spring. This can affect one twig or a master branch or even the tree as a whole. A reddish necrosis can be seen under the bark.
Gummy exudates occur at the edge of infected tissue.

[R]Biology
In summer the bacterium persists in a latent form on the leaves and the branches and only has a contaminating activity in winter, in cold humid conditions : it then penetrates through the pruning or petiole wounds.

[R]Epidemiology
The pathogen is disseminated by wind and rain.
Infection is favoured by cold humid periods at the end of winter.

[R]Treatement
Sow in deep soil with good food and water supply.
Avoid cold areas.
Spray cupric mixtures during the fall of leaves.

[R]Possible misleading
Symptoms are often hard to tell from those of P. viridiflava .
