[R]Identification
.

[R]Description
As the leaves grow in spring they already show little round discoloured lesions which later turn olive-brown and coalesce. They are particularly abundant on the upper surface of the leaf. The affected parts dry out.
Fruits show olive-brown spots ; the fungus can stop the growth of the skin which may tear. The fruits are distorted, dwarfed and unmarketable.
The twigs carry little round vesicles around which the bark is lifted and scabbed ; they contain olive-brown conidial cushions.

[R]Biology
The fungus overwinters as perithecia in dead leaves or in the wood of infected plants.
In spring perithecia are mature and ascospores are dispersed by rain splash on the green parts of trees. The first conidial cushions (olive-green spots) occur 20 days later and cause the first foci which will allow for new infections. (Secondary infection).

[R]Epidemiology
Ascospores need liquid water to germinate.
Rains carry and disseminate the two types of spores.
Rain has an infecting effect only if the temperature is 7 -25 °C.

[R]Treatement
Follow the treatment guidelines of the local authorities.
Reduce the source of inoculum by efficiently distroying the infected leaves.
