- Annual plant, cultivated for its large globulous fruits (watermelons), more or less round, with a firm, watery flesh. Watermelons are cultivated in Mediterranean countries.
- The skin of the fruit is dark green. There are varieties with red flesh and black seeds and others with white flesh and red seeds (*) .
- It is sown in open air around April-May and harvested in August-September.
