[R]Biology
- Host plants: various trees and shrubs, vine, hop, potato.
- Adult: overwinters in woods and hedges, migrating to vine in the spring. Hatching occurs soon after the eggs have been deposited in the foliage. The vine leafhopper feeds by inserting its stylets into the main vessels, especially the veins.
- Egg: embryonic development lasts 5-7 days.
- Nymph: 5 instars.
[R]Life Cycle
- There are 3, sometimes 4 generations per year. The first 2 are the most important economically.
[R]Damage
Feeding punctures of this pest lead to the appearance of necroses. Veins become dry and the leaf lamina turns brown. Scorch spreads from the edge of the lamina to the centre (*) .
Heavy infestations sometimes cause leaves to fall as early as August. Dry areas on host plants are demarkated by a couloured border, the colour of which varies according to the variety of vine.
