Biological control

[R] Use of an organism hostile to pests in order to combat them; parasites, predators, pathogens or competitors may be involved.
Biological control may involve:.
-the importation of an entomophagous organism (classical biological control);.
-the release of mass-reared controlling agents (inundative biological control);.
-the use of micro-organisms, often prepared as insecticides (e.g. the bacterium Bacillus thuringiensis);.
-the check of reproduction by a modified individual of the same species, in most cases a sterilized male (autocidal control).
