[R] Adjective referring to holocyclic aphids exhibiting the phenomenon of host alternation and thus utilizing an often woody winter or primary host, on which eggs are laid, and a usually herbaceous summer or secondary host.
For example, the primary host of the peach-potato aphid
(Myzus persicae) is peach or plum, secondary hosts being mainly annual herbaceous plants (*) .
