Coccinellidae, Ladybirds

[R] Medium-sized and rounded insects of the order Coleoptera with head partly hidden by pronotum. Most of them are brightly coloured and spotted.
Larvae have a soft and coloured body with spots and tubercles bearing spines in most cases. Legs are spindly.
Larvae and adults share the same habitat and have the same feeding habits, the Coccinellinae being entomophagous and the Epilachninae phytophagous.
The Coccinellinae are often benefic in the fight against aphids and scale insects.
