Buprestidae


[R] Large family of the order Coleoptera; phytophagous; typically forest-inhabiting and tropical, with species among the most brilliantly coloured of all insects; adults spindle-shaped, extremely active and strong fliers; larvae xylophagous, hammer-shaped, with very large prothorax and legs vestigial or absent.
Although if present in reduced numbers in Europe, the Buprestidae include highly destructive pests, e.g. the (Capnodis tenebrionis).
