Martyn Shorten received his Ph.D. from Loughborough University, UK, in 1984. Before starting his own business in 1992, he was employed as Director of the NIKE Sport Research Laboratory and as Director of Research, Design and Product Development for PUMA AG.
Shorten has been active in sports-related research and product development since 1978. For most of that time, his work has focused on applying biomechanics research to the development of safety and performance enhancing products for athletic, clinical and military applications.
While Shorten's basic and applied research has won international recognition, he is a self-styled "recovering academic", preferring to using science and technology as tools for developing applications and products. His company, Biomechanica LLC, provides research, development and testing services to leading manufacturers of athletic shoes, sports surfaces and protective equipment. |
| Shorten has been an active member of the International Society of Biomechanics since 1983, and served on the Society's Executive Council from 2001-2003. Shorten is currently Chairman of the ASTM International Committee on Sports Equipment and Facilities and a member of the Committee on Standards. He is active in the development of standards for footwear, artificial turf and impact attenuating surfaces. |

Jean-Marie Denoix
 |
Jean-Marie Denoix DVM, PhD, agrégé, begun his career as a professor in Anatomy at the Veterinary School of Lyons and did his PhD thesis on the equine distal frontlimb bone and joint biomechanics.
As the head of the Anatomy department at the Veterinary School of Alfort, he expanded clinical activities in equine lamenesses and musculoskeletal imaging. Thanks to his in-depth knowledge of Anatomy he developed a new diagnostic approach of equine joint injuries using ultrasonography.
He created the CIRALE (Center of Imaging and Research on Equine Locomotor Affections), leading imaging center for horses built in Normandy in 1999. Head of this center, his clinical duties consist in referred cases for diagnosis and imaging of equine locomotor problems and causes of poor performance. He set up a residency programme on Equine Rheumatology consisting in learning advanced techniques for the diagnosis and management of every musculoskeletal and back problem in race and sport horses.
|
He founded and is currently president of the ISELP (International Society of Equine Locomotor Pathology) created in the USA in 2006.
His research activities focuse on comparative imaging (computed radiography, ultrasonography, thermography, nuclear scintigraphy, Magnetic Resonance Imaging) in horses, with special emphasis on ultrasonography of joints as well as biomechanics and functional anatomy of the equine locomotor system.
