First region in France for horse breeding, Basse-Normandie is also known as a region of the first rank for horse training. In 2005, the equine sector was awarded the label “competitiveness cluster” by the French government for its research and development project. The Basse-Normandie regional Council strongly supports this symbolic sector that employs over 7,000 people.

France’s horse industry economic cluster
A network of innovative companies, research centres and training organizations. A role of supporting projects so as to strengthen the excellence of the French horse industry.

Within a competitiveness perspective of the French offering on international markets, the national economic cluster must be able to be based on the concentration and visibility that Normandy offers to make it a reference and anchoring point for a French network of innovative businesses and thus succeed in maintaining French excellence with regard to the horse. The challenges of the Cluster can be summarized in 3 goals:

Société de Biomécanique

The Société de Biomécanique (SB) was funded in 1975 to organize a close cooperation between researchers, clinicians engineers and industrial in the fields of life science. The society now includes more than 200 members and nearly 100 french-speaking teams (France, Canada, Suisse, Belgique). One international congress is organised each year by the SB.
