Reducing the use of antibiotics in agriculture is essential to limit the occurrence and risks of propagation of multiresistant bacteria. To do so, public awareness and an evolution of practices in a One Health approach are necessary. INRA is multiplying initiatives aimed at associating all scientific disciplines around joint research projects, while involving all the players of the agricultural world.

The transition period from conventional to organic farming comes with risks. How do farmers view these risks, and why? Scientists at the AGIR unit conducted a series of interviews over time and quantitative analyses with farmers who are converting to organic, in an attempt to answer these questions.

An analysis of the operations and performance of 17 farms in three different tropical zones (Guadeloupe, Brazil, Cuba) demonstrates that systems are more agroecological, efficient and resilient when a diverse range of activities are practiced and nutrient cycles are closed with higher-intensity crop–livestock integration flows.

Multiple studies carried out at INRA Auvergne Rhône-Alpes have demonstrated that there is such a thing as a “grazing effect” on the sensory properties and quality of milk, cheese, butter and meat. Due to progress in microbiological analysis tools, research now explores the impact of grassland plant diversity on the animal’s microbiota. As it turns out, the link to its area of origin is important for cheese as well!
