LOOKING FOR GENOMIC CHARACTERISTICS OF RALSTONIA SOLANACEARUM EUROPEAN ISOLATES

The nearly complete 16S rRNA gene sequences of three isolates of Ralstonia solanacearum (potato or tomato) found in distant geographical places in France, were determined. Partial sequences of three other isolates, covering the variable parts of the gene, were obtained. These sequences showed, in position 458 to 460, the specific nucleotides of the division 2 of R. solanacearum (Taghavi et al, 1996); they looked like the sequences of the subdivision 2a except for 3 additional nucleotides as previously described by Li et al (1993). Other European isolates of our collection were tested in PCR with primers chosen to specify each of both divisions in 16S RNA sequences of this bacterium. First results of the genetic diversity of these isolates, based on RAPD analysis will also be presented.
