ECCB'2003 European Conference on Computational Biology
September 27-30, 2003, Paris, FRANCE

PAPERS SUBMISSION

paper submissions is closed (March 17, 2003)
authors will be notified of acceptance or rejection by email on May 18, 2003.
(due to the high number and quality of submitted papers, initial date (May 15) has been extended to May 18, 2003)

ECCB is a multi-disciplinary conference that bridges the fields of computer science, mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology by bringing together involved scientists from all over the world.
Papers reporting on cutting-edge research in all areas of computational biology are sought.
Two types of papers may be submitted, long or short ones
:

  • Long papers (the length, excluding cover page and bibliography, should not exceed 10 pages) should report on achieved original research (theoretical and / or experimental) or be surveys of important recent results / directions. Selected long papers will be published as a supplement to the Journal Bioinformatics (Oxford University Press) of the conference and be presented in a 25 minutes talk.
Long papers submitted for review should represent original, previously unpublished work. At the time the full paper is submitted to ECCB'2003, and for the entire review period, the paper should not be under review by any other conference or scientific journal.
  • Short papers (the length, excluding bibliography, should not exceed 2 pages) may report on possibly partial results. Selected short papers will appear in the Posters Proceedings and will be presented in a 15 minutes talk. Simultaneous submission to another conference or journal is allowed.

The choice of which type of paper is being submitted, long or short, must be clearly indicated by the authors. The two submission tracks are completely separate.
Topics of interest concern biological areas, also advanced computational or mathematical methods for biological problems, such as :

Annotation
Genomics
Comparative maps
Molecular sequence analysis
Molecular structure
Biochemical networks

Evolution
Phylogenetics
Development control
Recognition of genes and regulatory elements
Gene expression
Gene networks
Molecular interactions
Computational proteomics
Combinatorial libraries and drug design
Analysis of genetic variations
String and graph algorithms
Linguistic methods
Combinatorics
Constraint satisfactions
Knowledge representation
Databases
Pattern recognition
Machine learning
Data analysis
Stochastic modeling
Robotics
Parallel computation

Paper submission

Paper submission and review will be managed using CyberChair, a free software web-based paper submission and reviewing system. Authors are requested to submit their papers electronically through a web page.
Electronical submission needs 2 steps, the first one for abstracts and the second one for full paper : please follow the instructions carefully.
The system accepts plain ascii text for abstracts, and Postscript or PDF files for papers (PDF files are preferred, so
MS Word documents must be converted to PDF before being submitted).
In the present phase of our process, we ask the authors to give a "draft" of the work they want to present in ECCB2003. For the moment there are no important constraints about the submission's format, only that you type your text in 10- or 11-point Times, single-spaced, and not more than approximatively 10 pages for long paper and 2 pages for short papers. Afterwards, when your paper will be selected, you'll have to follow precisely the guidelines that will be given for long papers and those one for short papers.
If you have difficulties adhering to the format or the submission requirements, please contact the program or organization co-chairs (sagot@inrialpes.fr or cch@jouy.inra.fr) so that special arrangements can be made.

Each submitted paper will be evaluated by three reviewers on the basis of originality, significance, technical soundness, and clarity of exposition. An author of each accepted paper (long or short) is expected to attend the conference and present the paper; otherwise alternative arrangements should be made to have the paper presented.
Upon acceptance, authors must comply with the formatting instructions which will be done later on.
Authors will be notified of acceptance or rejection by email on May 18, 2003.
A final copy of each accepted paper will be required subsequently (deadline for final paper : June 9, 2003).
