[R]Description
Sudden wilting and drying of the leaves.
The vessels turn dark yellow to brown and gum exudes.

[R]Biology
The fungus can survive on debris in the soil for about ten years.
It persists up to two years on watermelon seeds.
The survival potential of the chlamydospores produced by the mycelium or the macroconidia is very high.
Spreading occurs through the seeds, the dust, the contaminated soil, the implements and the irrigation water.

[R]Epidemiology
The optimum temperature is 26 °C.
Low RH and strong light also facilitate the development of the disease.

[R]Treatement
Disinfection of the soil with fumigants.
Resistant cultivars recommended.
