[R] Phleum pratense L. (Poaceae).
Fr: Fléole; Ge: Wiesenlieschgras; Sp: Fleo; It: Paleino; Pt: Fléolo.

- Perennial forage grass of moderate height (80 cm). The inflorescence is a cylindrical panicle composed of spikelets each having a single flower (*) .
- It is sown, occasionally with white clover, in March or at the end of summer and is not exploited the year of its establishment. It is used in the following spring, either as pasture, when it has attained a height of 20 cm, or as silage, before the appearance of the spikes, or dried, 10 to 15 days after the appearance of the first spike. A period of 30 to 40 days is necessary between uses; the last cut occurs around October. It has a life of 4 to 6 years.

- Diseases: those of forage grasses.

- Principal European pests: those of forage grasses. Larvae of timothy flies, Nanna spp. (Dip. Scatophagidae) specifically attack the inflorescence.
