This species occurs almost exclusively on new shoots, young twigs and especially fruit-bearing twigs of hazel.
[R]Life Cycle
An autoecious species overwintering in the egg stage, eggs being black and laid at the base of those buds (*) which, in spring, will carry female flowers. There are several generations per year.
[R]Damage
Affected plant parts, especially hazelnuts and their cupules, do not become distorted but are covered with vast quantities of honeydew and sooty moulds. The size of hazelnuts is sometimes reduced.
