Pieridae


[R] Family of the order Lepidoptera; butterflies very common with white, yellow or reddish-yellow wings specked with black; pupae suspended in an upright position, attached by the caudal extremity and a central band of silk.
The genus Pieris includes the large white butterfly (P. brassicae) and the small white butterfly (P. rapae), whose larvae are extremely destructive to cruciferous plants.
