[R] Family of the order Coleoptera; adults globe-shaped, squat and walking in a clumsy manner; elytra not completely covering the abdomen. Most chafers are strong fliers and burrowers.
Larvae whitish, fleshy and arch-shaped, the tip of the abdomen being swollen; legs well-developed; head sclerotized, bearing conspicuous mouthparts; feed on decaying matter or roots; metamorphosis not occurring until after 2 years.

, Melolontha melolontha). The Scarabaeinae are coprophagous.
