[R] Family of Diptera (Nematocera), often called "daddy-longlegs"; adults with very long and fragile legs and an elongate head, the thorax being large and with a V-shaped suture (line in the integument separating two joined parts); larvae cylindrical, the head being deeply embedded in the prothorax, living among grass, roots or aquatic.
The most important in this family include the (Tipula oleracea) and the marsh crane fly
(Tipula paludosa).
