Scutellum


[R] The scutellum is defined aq the third major division of the dorsal surface of each thoracic segment. It is usually obvious only on the mesothorax and is particularly large in some Heteroptera. A scutellum is also very pbvious in certain Aculeates (Hymenoptera) (e.g; bumblebees).
