Passeriformes


[R] Very large order corresponding to that of the passerines in the older classification. These perching birds are characterized by a beak with no silk, tarsi covered with small scales and feet having three toes in front opposed by one well-developed toe behind. Often of a small size, they are present everywhere. The main families comprising pests in Europe are the Paridae, the Fringillidae, the Passeridae, the Sturnidae and the Corvidae.
