This species, although uniform in continental America, shows considerable variation in the Antilles where
almost every island has its own subspecies.
The status of subspecies has been revised by H.K. Clench (J. Lepid. Soc., 1975, 29: 230-235).
Biology and distributionLarva on Passiflora spp.. Turner reports P. suberosa L. in Jamaica (Passifloraceae).
Martinique (D. i. martinica ) and Guadeloupe (D. i. dominicana) everywhere, but not common.
St-Kitts, Montserrat and Saba (D. i. warneri (Hall)), Dominica (D. i. dominicana),
St-Lucia (D. i. lucia (Riley)), St-Vincent, Grenada, Grenadines and (?) Barbados (D. i. framptoni (Riley)).
Bahamas (D. i. carteri (Riley)), Cuba (D. i. nudeola (Bates)), Cayman Is. (D. i. zoe Miller & Steinhauser),
Jamaica (D. i. delila (Fabricius)), Hispaniola (D. i. hispaniola (Hall)),
