The main research programs of the team “Biology and Evolution of RNA Plant Viruses” focus on host adaptation of viral populations, on characterisation of molecular determinants of viral pathogenic properties, on molecular epidemiology of viruses and on viral evolution processes. Each of these topics are performed on either Potato virus Y (PVY, Potyvirus), Barley Yellow Dwarf Virus-PAV (BYDV-PAV, Luteovirus) or Tobacco Rattle Virus (TRV, Tobravirus), the main three viral species studied by the team.
The evolutionary approaches developed by the team are based on the use of molecular markers linked to biological properties of viruses in order to analyse processes and events associated with viral adaptations. Last but not least, during the last ten years the team has developed and improved numerous original methods/tools for the detection/characterization of viral isolates and populations.
