Agroscope Changins-Wädenswil ACW is one of three public agricultural research institutes, which are gathered under the name Agroscope. It belongs to the Swiss Federal Office for Agriculture (FOAG) and prepares the technical and scientific bases for an efficient, sustainable and competitive agriculture.
ACW is a research station that conducts applied research in plant science. Areas of study include field crops, pastures, viticulture, arboriculture, horticulture, berries and aromatic and medicinal herbs.
Research on PVY is a priority at ACW. In the 80's, the development of the first serological reagents (first monoclonal antibodies) for a quick and reliable screening of PVY, in particular on tubers, was achieved. ACW possesses and maintains an important collection of PVY for research and reference purposes. One of our main current assignments is to develop tools to identify new emerging strains of PVY and to insure the quality and the reliability of the virological controls for seed potato production. This includes the follow-up of the virus in the fields, the development and update of diagnostic methods for the characterization of new strains. Our straight collaboration with Bioreba SA (located at Reinach) allows the worldwide commercialization of the reagents developed at ACW.
