Detection tools
Viral detection and characterization is mainly achieved using three kind of complementary assays:
- The biologically-based assays: analyse virulence and aggressiveness of tested isolates using a range of different indicator hosts
- The serologically-based assays: use of antigenic properties of viral protein, mainly structural protein of the viral particle (coat protein)
- The molecularly-based tools: amplification/detection of specific region (domains, sequences or nucleotides) of the viral genome
