Description & objectives: Independent non-profit organisation that promotes and supports responsible and sustainable aquaculture and the alleviation of poverty by improving livelihoods in developing countries. Formed in 2004, it is registered as a non-profit organisation in the USA and as a charity in the UK.

Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA)
Description & objectives: An international, non-profit trade association dedicated to advancing environmentally and socially responsible aquaculture. GAA recognises that aquaculture is the only sustainable means of increasing seafood supply to meet the food needs of the world's growing population. GAA therefore promotes Best Aquaculture Practices standards and facility certification for sustainable aquaculture at the core of its Responsible Aquaculture Program and other activities.

International Salmon Farmers Association
Description & objectives: ISFA was formed in 1988 to advance the interests of the world salmon industry. The initiative created a forum of representative national bodies, able and willing to meet and freely discuss issues of common interest. The current membership consists of members from seven countries: Canada, Chile, Faroe Islands, Iceland, Ireland, Norway, and USA. These currently represent close to 1,300,000 tonnes round weight of farmed salmon production. Each country is represented by an elected member from its official producer association, and meetings are held twice yearly in a member country or in conjuction with a major industry event. In recent years meetings have been held in Iceland, Norway, Belgium, Chile, and USA. Issues discussed at meetings include markets, regulatory issues, improved husbandry techniques, developing technologies and international policy.

Ornamental Fish International (OFI)
Description & objectives: Founded on 1 June 1980, OFI is the worldwide trade association representing all sectors of the ornamental aquatic industry in some 40 different countries worldwide. Membership ranges from consultants, manufacturers, publishers, wholesalers, collectors and breeders, to retailers, importers, exporters, plant specialists, freight forwarders, airlines and exhibition companies. The OFI members have all made a commitment to comply to the OFI Code of Ethics. As a result, OFI members have obtained a reputation as reliable business partners and suppliers of quality products.

World Aquaculture Society (WAS)
Description & objectives: International non-profit organization with over 3,000 members in around 100 countries. Founded in 1969, the primary focus of WAS is to strengthen and facilitate communication and information exchange on high priority topics and emerging issues within the diverse global aquaculture community. The WAS has international chapters in the Asian Pacific region, Latin American and Caribbean region, United States, Japan and Korea. There are also numerous other organisations affiliated with WAS from diverse countries and regions worldwide.
