Research Group: Domestication in Inland Aquaculture (DAC)
Scientific Interest: Photoperiod, pineal gland, melatonin
Research Application: Spawning control and broodstock management
Description of research: The DAC team is mainly concerned with the control of the reproductive cycle (environmental control, temperature and photoperiod interactions) of new candidate species for aquaculture such as Eurasian perch and pikeperch. The primary objective is to produce models for the determinism of reproductive cycle performance. A second objective is to analyse the effects of domestication.

NATIONAL AGRONOMY RESEARCH INSTITUTE (INRA) - SCRIBE (Joint Research Unit for Fish Physiology, Biodiversity and the Environment)
Research Group: Fish Reproduction
Scientific Interest: Neuroendocrinology, gonad & gamete physiology, stress/reproduction interactions
Research Application: Puberty, sex, fertility and spawning control, broodstock management
Description of Research: Depending upon the fish species being considered, controlled breeding requires knowledge of one or several stages of the life cycle and sex differentiation for the production and cryopreservation of quality gametes and embryos. Research carried out by the Fish Reproduction Group focuses on: (a)physiological determination of the sexual differentiation of the gonad; (b)regulation of testicular functions and puberty in males; (c)regulation of oogenesis linked to the quality of fish eggs; (d)cryopreservation of genomes and fish regeneration; (e)impact of chemical pollutants in the environment on fish reproduction.

UNIVERSITY OF RENNES 1 / NATIONAL CENTRE FOR SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH (CNRS)
Research Group: Molecular endocrinology of reproduction
Scientific Interest: Neuroendocrinology & pituitary
Research Application: Central control of reproduction
Description of research: The molecular endocrinology of reproduction team is a part of the CNRS, hosted by the University of Rennes 1. The team is skilled in the use of the most modern techniques in molecular and cell biology and has long term experience in steroid receptors and GnRH systems in teleost fishes. Research carried out on trout and zebra fish includes expression, regulation and functions of P450 aromatase; cloning, expression and regulation of estrogen receptors. Work is also undertaken on sea bass on the cloning and characterisation of GnRH receptors.
