Genomic Databases
A listing of websites providing access to genomic databases.
Website: MEDAKA GENOME PROJECT
URL: http://medaka.utgenome.org/
Description: Medaka genome sequence data. The genome of Hd-rR, an inbred Medaka strain, was assembled from 13.8 million reads that were obtained from the whole genome shotgun plasmid, fosmid and bacterial artificial chromosome librairies.
Website: STICKLEBACK GENOME PROJECT
URL: http://www.broad.mit.edu/tools/data/data-vert.html
Description: The Broad Institute stickleback genome sequencing project. Stickleback are used as models for the study of morphology and speciation.
Website: TAKIFUGI GENOME PROJECT
URL: http://www.fugu-sg.org
Description: The fugu (Takifugu rubripes or Fugu rubripes) has a similar repertoire of genes to humans and is a very useful model for annotating the human genome. It is amongst the smallest of vertebrate genomes and is a good reference genome for the identification of genes and other functional elements and for understanding the structure and evolution of vertebrate genomes.
Website: TETRAODON PUFFERFISH GENOME PROJECT
URL: http://www.genoscope.cns.fr/externe/tetranew/ & http://broad.mit.edu/tools/data/data-vert.html
Description: The pufferfish, Tetraodon nigrovividis, has the smallest genome of the vertebrates. The intial objective of this project was to compare the genomic sequences of this fish to that of humans to help in the annotation of human genes and to estimate their number.
Website: TIGR GENE INDICES
URL: http://tigrblast.tigr.org/tgi/
Description: TIGR's genome projects are a collection of curated databases containing DNA and protein sequence, gene expression, cellular role, protein family and taxonomic data for microbes, plants and humans.
Website: ZEBRA FISH GENOME PROJECT
URL: http://www.sanger.ac.uk/Projects/D_rerio/
Description: In February 2001, the Sanger Institute started sequencing the zebrafish genome by mapping and sequencing clones from BAC librairies. The finished clones are accessible, as well as whole genome assemblies.
